Thinking that she didn’t need to carry a passport while travelling in Johor Bahru, a Singaporean woman was apparently made to pay a hefty price. Marissa, 28, took to social media app Lemon8 last Saturday (Aug 12) to share her experience of getting pulled over by Johor traffic police and allegedly being asked to pay ‘coffee money’ of RM10,000 (S$3,000). Marissa, who didn’t want to give her full name, said that she and her friend, both Singaporeans, were travelling in Johor Bahru back in May using a Malaysian-registered car. At around 6.30pm, Marissa mentioned that they were exiting Sunway Big Box Retail Park when she noticed that a Johor traffic police car was “tailing [them] but…
As U.S. lawmakers called on the government to release more information in line with the Pentagon’s efforts to track unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), a Chinese official told Newsweek that Beijing sought greater cooperation on matters related to outer space. The congressional calls came in the wake of a series of hearings held last week by the House Oversight Committee, where witnesses claimed the U.S. Intelligence Community had access to more evidence of UAPs than has been released as part of the Pentagon’s push to bring the issue out in the open. One former Air Force officer claimed that U.S. officials had access to…

Sacked Russian top general exposed the counter-battery problem for the Russian army in Ukraine, British intelligence reported in its daily update on the Russo-Ukrainian war on 17 July. After being sacked as commander of Russia’s 58th Combined Arms Army in Ukraine, General Major Ivan Popov complained about the lack of counter-battery provision for the Russian army on the front line in southern Ukraine, where his troops operated, according to British intelligence. Russian ground forces’ survivability relies on effectively detecting Ukrainian artillery and striking against it, often with its artillery. Counter-battery radars, which allow commanders to locate enemy gun lines rapidly, are a…

A new high-resolution satellite image obtained by the BBC reveals hundreds of new tent-like structures at the site of a suspected Wagner camp in Belarus. This follows an agreement to relocate Wagner mercenaries and their controversial leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, to Belarus, following the recent mutiny against Russian forces. What does the satellite image show? The satellite image appears to show activity at a disused military base about 13 miles (21km) from the town of Asipovichy – around 64 miles from Minsk, the capital of Belarus. The area has been reported in Russian media as a place which could house Wagner fighters. BBC Verify has…
The unity government is focused on saving the country from race and religious bigotry and not winning the upcoming state elections alone, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said the religious narrative spread among PAS leaders is dangerous for the country. “Some really nonsensical issues have been brought up by PAS leaders, such as claims that Prophet Adam landed in Gunung Jerai (in Kedah), and no one questioned this, not even the PAS ulama,” he said in a brief press conference after a Qurban Perdana Madani event in Permatang Pauh. In Islam, Adam is considered the faith’s first…
